Day 4 – September 25

Israel lies on the eastern Mediterranean land bridge connecting Africa, Asia, and Europe. In the biblical record, this land is the setting for the patriarchs, the history of Israel, the ministries of the prophets, and the earthly life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The modern State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948, following the end of the British Mandate. There have been a number of wars and conflicts surrounding its establishment and continuing existence, which have brought challenges to daily living to both Jewish and Palestinian Arab communities. Today, Israel is home to a Jewish-majority population alongside Arab citizens, including Muslims, Christians, Druze, Bedouin, immigrants, and foreign residents. It is a land of extraordinary biblical significance, remarkable national resilience, and continuing security challenges. In its short modern existence, Israel has made notable advancements and achievements in science and technology, agriculture, education, medicine, engineering, military strategies and arms, and global trade, among other things. Scripture reminds believers that God remains faithful to His covenant purposes, while the church is called to pray for Israel’s salvation, the peace of Jerusalem, the protection of the innocent, the strengthening of Christ’s church, and the faithful proclamation of the gospel throughout the land.1

People live in Israel, a highly educated and modern society where most identify as Jewish – ranging from deeply Orthodox to entirely secular – in the historic homeland of the Jewish people and the land where much of God’s redemptive work unfolded throughout Scripture. Most Jewish Israelis do not yet recognize Jesus as the promised Messiah, and many communities still await a clear and faithful gospel witness. Yet God has preserved both a Messianic Jewish remnant and a historic Arab Christian presence, demonstrating His continuing work among every tribe, language, and people.2

Recent news: Israel is currently fighting on four fronts; all connected in some way to Iran. The first is with Hamas in Gaza, where Hamas is still refusing to disarm. The second is with Hezbollah in Lebanon, a known Iran-proxy. The third is in Syria, where most of the Iran-backed terrorist cells have been eliminated. And, of course, they are at war, together with the United States, with Iran itself, attempting to weaken its influence over the proxy groups active and causing instability in the region.3

Pray with us: 

Father, we pray for this land of Biblical significance, including Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection. We ask for a revelation of Jesus as Messiah to the Jews, and of Jesus as the One True God to all others. Let all of Israel be saved! Keep them safe and continuing to prosper and advance in agriculture, technology, medicine, and many other areas of society. As commanded in the scriptures, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, shared by Jews, Christians, and Muslims as holy ground. We ask You to guard and protect every citizen from every threat. May all the people reside in safety and prosperity in the land. And, Lord, strengthen Your Church. Embolden them to share the Gospel boldly in their actions and their words as they live out Your love for their neighbors of any faith. May they demonstrate Your reality as they pray for and practically care for their neighbors when they are sick, hungry, scared, or confused. Let Your love be expressed through Your Church in Israel, Jesus. Amen.
