Placing a Shield of Protection Over Our Cities Pt. 2

RPN

This prayer guide is Part Two of a 911 prayer alert I issued in October to cover college campuses, our cities, and our nations for 21 days, from 11/11/23 through 12/1/23.

The Lord gave me a word as I came into Israel in mid-September that acts of terrorism would come against them. Then, He warned me that the same thing could happen on American soil, especially on campuses. He also told me there were “sleeper cells” that could “hatch” and the violence could go from house to house, especially against the Jews and those who support them. Prophets from other nations have since said they saw similar things in their nations.

Then, a terrible day occurred in Israel just outside the border of Gaza. On October 7th, quiet kibbutzim were attacked by terrorists in the early morning. Hamas went from house to house and slaughtered men, women, the elderly, and children in horrific ways, just as I had seen. The world was shocked!

And then a fresh horror began as we watched antisemitism rise worldwide as we have not seen since the Holocaust. Those taking the side of Hamas were often students on college campuses. So, together with many campus prayer leaders in the U.S. and worldwide, we put out a 911 call for a 21-day season of prayer on the campuses, beginning 11/11 at 11:00 P.M. and going through December 1st. We have heard that 1000s of campuses were prayed over that day, and many more are still being prayer walked.

Part 2 – Prayer for our cities

The Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders met last week in Dallas, TX. This group meets once a year to share what they feel the Lord is saying for the coming year. Many were telling of dreams and visions they have had of terrorism on American soil. It did not put us into a place of fear, but rather, stirred us to cry out for the great harvest of souls. Nevertheless, we all felt we needed to systematically pray over our cities.

It is very important that we take very seriously what the Lord is trying to say to us through the prophets. Just before one of the first horrific school shootings – at Columbine High School in Colorado - I released a prophetic word to the cities in the Denver metroplex. I saw violence unleashed against the Denver area and cried out for a shield of protection to be raised up in every city in the area. Some prayed, but for the most part, the urgency of the hour was not understood. As we know, Columbine High School lost many students to two young, disturbed high school students. However, a short while after that I was ministering in the Phoenix area, and I saw three attacks against the city. I gave a word that the area needed to be protected in prayer. Well, the intercessors there did so. Not long after that, three different attacks against malls in the city were uncovered and the would-be perpetrators were arrested. God listened to the prayers of the saints asking Him to guard their cities, and the enemy was exposed and tragedy was averted!

So, adding to our prayer for the campuses, let’s pray for God’s hand of protection over our cities this week, November 18 through November 24th. Be aware of the Lord’s Presence everywhere you go. In America, it is our Thanksgiving holiday, and many will be traveling, and visiting family and friends. Stay in an attitude of protective prayer as you move from place to place.

How to pray:

  • Consider fasting in some way.

  • Prepare yourself in a time of personal prayer and consecration. Worship Him. Ask Him if there is any unconfessed sin in your life. Ask Him to show you where you may have anger against another person, or prejudices against people groups in your city. Ask Jesus to give you a great love for others, even as He loves them. That’s the position you will want to pray from.

  • Keep Psalm 127:1b in mind as you pray this week, “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stays awake in vain.” Acknowledge God’s care and concern over your city and every person, saved or unsaved, in it. Ask God to show you how to watch over your city with Him. Ask Him to show you what you need to see to pray more on target.

  • Take a walk around your neighborhood. Pray over each home you walk by. Ask God to bless the families and individuals that live there. Pray for protection over each household and ask God to save anyone residing there who may not yet know Him. Pray Psalm 91, a psalm of protection, over your neighborhood because you live there: "He who lives in the safe place of the Most High will be in the shadow of the All-powerful. I will say to the Lord, 'You are my safe and strong place, my God, in Whom I trust.' For it is He Who takes you away from the trap, and from the killing sickness. He will cover you with His wings. And under His wings you will be safe. He is faithful like a safe-covering and a strong wall. You will not be afraid of trouble at night, or of the arrow that flies by day. You will not be afraid of the sickness that walks in darkness, or of the trouble that destroys at noon. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand. But it will not come near you. You will only look on with your eyes, and see how the sinful are punished. Because you have made the Lord your safe place, and the Most High the place where you live, nothing will hurt you. No trouble will come near your tent. For He will tell His angels to care for you and keep you in all your ways. They will hold you up in their hands. So your foot will not hit against a stone. You will walk upon the lion and the snake. You will crush under your feet the young lion and the snake. Because he has loved Me, I will bring him out of trouble. I will set him in a safe place on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will take him out of trouble and honor him. I will please him with a long life. And I will show him My saving power. (NLT)

  • Pay close attention to the condition of the homes. Ask the Lord to meet the deepest needs of the residents. Pray over emotional needs, abuse, and pray that any dark activities come into the light immediately! Stress, especially financial stress, relational conflict, religious beliefs, and occult practices can all be triggers for violence. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Pray for peace over each one. Declare a modified form of Psalm 34:14 where you feel darkness, “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace in Jesus and pursue Him!”

  • Prayer drive your city. Pray over churches, schools, businesses, malls, parks, and other places where people congregate. Decree a combination of 2 Thess. 3:3 and 2 Samuel 22:3-4 over your city, “The Lord is faithful! He will establish you (name your city) and guard you against the evil one! For He is our God, our Rock, in whom we take refuge, our shield, and the horn of salvation, our stronghold and our refuge, our savior.” Now, address the Lord, “You save us from violence, God Most High. We call upon You, Lord, for You are worthy to be acknowledged and praised. You will save us from our enemies!”

  • As you are walking or driving around your city, look for places that are strongholds of sin, iniquity, idolatry, false religions, and historical violence. You may feel led by the Lord to address those areas. Identificationally repent as Daniel did in the Bible. He saw that the sin in Jerusalem brought the judgment of God on their city. Even though he had not personally sinned, he repented as if he had. So, you can repent of the sin in your city and ask God to forgive those in the city acting in sinful ways. You can ask God to forgive the city’s leaders for allowing the sinful practices to remain. Then, thank God for hearing your prayers and turning back any judgment the city deserves.

  • Finish your week of prayer for protection by taking communion. Worship and thank the Lord for angelic assistance in rooting out evil and establishing His peace in your community.

Warring in the heavens!
