The Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan Report
Category: Prophetic Reports, Middle East
In 1991 during a time of prayer, I felt the Lord say, “Kuwait is a major key to open up the Middle East for the gospel.” Since that time, I began praying about going there to minister. Over the past ten years, we have been in contact with the leaders from the National Evangelical Church (now The Lighthouse Church) in Kuwait City. We have been seeking the Lord for His timing to go to Kuwait. That time came in October 2006. The door to Kuwait opened and Mike and I went for a regional conference.
Beginnings
Our journey began in Dallas, with a four-hour delay that dogged our steps as made our way to Iraq. We contacted intercessors, asking them to pray that we would make our connection in Frankfort. An unsuccessful connection would result in a one-day delay in Germany, causing us not to arrive in time for our first teaching engagement. Thankfully, our connection was a success! Thank you, intercessors!
Flying into the Middle East exciting. As we looked out the window, we could see flares of light from oil facilities, and Kuwait City on the Arabian Gulf was a sight with thousands of sparkling lights. To us, it looked like a very special treasure.
As we descended, I became emotional reflecting on my years of prayer for the Middle East; asking God to give me one million souls from the region to take to heaven with me. I was shouting on the inside, praying, “Lord, give me harvest in this region for your Kingdom!”
I also had a solemn moment of reflection, not knowing what would transpire on our soon-to-come journey into Iraq; “Were we headed into great danger? Would we even be able to make it into Iraq?” These questions, and many more tumbled through my head. “God knows,” I thought, “and we are in the palm of His Hand.”
As we walked to customs, we looked around for where to acquire a visa. Thinking we were at the right location, we waited in line. To our left was a separate line for veiled women. I wasn’t sure if I should get in that queue as a woman or not. After waiting, we were instructed to go another place first. At last, we were in the right location to get our visas. To our right was a McDonald’s and Swenson’s ice cream. We got a number, waited longer, paid, and waited. At last we were able to get through customs and retrieve our bags.
When traveling into a new nation; especially a Muslim nation, it is a wonderful and comforting feeling to be greeted by a group of believers with flowers. I breathed an inner sigh of relief.
Kuwait
Driving into the city, we were amazed at the modernity and orderliness of everything. Kuwait was, at one time, a British colony. There is a large number of Filipinos, Indians, Africans and people from many other nations working in Kuwait. As a result, there was not a major language barrier.
