Proclamation of a Year of Repentance, Fasting and Prayer

To Call the United States back to Her Christian Roots

During the Year of Our Lord 2010

Whereas, the Senate of the United States, has, aforetimes issued National Proclamations of Prayer and Fasting where it devoutly recognized the Supreme Authority and Just Government of Almighty God, in all the affairs of men and of nations; we the united believers in the Lord Jesus Christ do declare and decree that we are one nation under God.

And, whereas, following the example and precedent of President Abraham Lincoln before us, we concur that it is the duty of nations as well as men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God and that, as a people, we need to confess our sins and transgressions against the most Holy God and recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.

And, insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not fear that we are justly deserving of punishment for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People?  We have been recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven.  We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity.  We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown.  But we have forgotten God.  We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.  Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

We have committed the sin of abortion and thus the killing of at least 54 million unborn children.  We have committed the sin of buying and selling other humans for our own self-serving purposes and greed.  We have bowed at the altar of humanism and condoned erasing Your Name from our nation’s textbooks and schoolrooms.  We have sinned against You and the nations of the world through making films that have glorified what is sinful and shameful in Your eyes.  We have called good evil and evil good.  All these things we have done and transgressed against Your Holy Name.

Therefore, it behooves us to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.  We, as Christian leaders in the Body of Christ in the United States of America, do call for a year of humiliation, fasting and prayer to turn the nation back to God.

We do this in sincerity and truth with the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the believers of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now economically and morally divided nation.  We cry out for no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our land back to its former state as one Nation under God, the Lord Jesus Christ.  We pray that You will have mercy upon us as believers who are crying under the imminent threat of religious persecution.  God give us elected leaders whose hearts are after You to return the nation back to the vision our forebearers had when they fled religious persecution to establish a new dwelling place for freedom and establish the United States of America as a city set upon a hill that is a beacon of light and freedom for all.
